Southern Water Drought Plan

Southern Water Drought Plan

Adams Hendry provided advice and support to Southern Water in relation to drought projects across southern England.

We advised on the preparation of Southern Water’s Drought Plan, including stakeholder engagement and the completion of necessary Strategic Environmental Assessment. This builds on the broader work we undertake for Southern Water on water resource management planning and the development of water resource schemes.

We also provided advice and support in the preparation and implementation of Southern Water’s Drought Orders and Drought Permits, working closely with engineering and environmental consultants, and undertaking stakeholder engagement prior to publication of the permits and orders.

Individual drought schemes often have planning and environmental implications and can require the grant of planning permission prior to implementation. We provided advice to Southern Water on permitted development rights and EIA requirements on specific water resource schemes designed to alleviate the impact of drought on available water resources. This included schemes to remove operational and water quality constraints on existing water sources, bringing closed water resource sites back into use, temporary pipelines or tankering solutions, desalination plants and other potential drought projects.
