Adams Hendry secured planning permission for the construction of Thames Water’s extension to Beckton Sewage Treatment Works (STW), which serves a Population Equivalent of 3.5 million and is the largest STW in Europe.
The extension of the works, which increases the maximum flow to full treatment capacity from 140Ml/d to 235Ml/d, has been designed to accommodate the impacts of population growth of 300,000 within its design horizon, as well managing flows that will be transferred from Thames Water’s Lee Tunnel and proposed Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Following the grant of consent Adams Hendry used their in-depth knowledge of wastewater planning and development and continued to work closely with the project team to discharge conditions and secure scheme changes necessary to facilitate successful implementation of this landmark project, which was officially opened in July 2014.
