| Park and Ride Car Park and Retail Development at Whitewall Creek, Frindsbury, Kent | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Medway Council resolved to approve a planning application by Equity Estates for a retail warehouse and park and ride car park but the Secretary of State directed the council to refer the application to her for determination. One of the grounds for call-in was to determine "Whether the site is required for alternative development as a deep water wharf and whether such development would be practicable?" |
Mike Adams was the expert planning witness for Equity Estates on this matter. He researched existing and proposed wharf capacity on the River Medway. He assessed the extent of engineering works and dredging required to create a wharf in the creek. He presented evidence that it was not practicable to create a deep water wharf at Whitewall Creek. The Secretary of State accepted this evidence together with the evidence given on other matters. She granted planning permission subject to conditions in September 2006. |
