| West Ham Station Temporary Olympic Capacity Enhancement Works | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
West Ham Station will play an important role in getting spectators to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Along with Stratford and Stratford International stations, West Ham will be one of the main gateway stations to the heart of the Games - the Olympic Park. Spectators will reach the southern entrance of the Olympic Park from West Ham by walking along an improved section of the Greenway, a public walkway. The walkway would allow spectators to bypass the station's regular entrances and exits, which would not be able to cater for larger numbers of Games spectators. |
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) appointed Adams Hendry as planning agent to apply for a number of temporary improvements to West Ham station to provide additional capacity for spectators during the Games. The works involve a temporary footbridge over the eastbound District line, a pedestrian walkway to Manor Road and a temporary lift and stairs to the Greenway. Adams Hendry submitted the planning application and supporting documents to London Borough of Newham Council in September 2009. Newham Council approved the application, subject to planning conditions, on 11th November and construction will start in early 2010. |
