  Thames Gateway Bridge

Mike Adams was the expert town planning witness at the public inquiry on behalf of Transport for London.

The then Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government announced her decision on 25th July 2007 to defer making a decision. She asked that the public inquiry be re-opened to hear new evidence from Transport for London in particular on predicted regeneration benefits.

Boris Johnson as the new Major of London in 2008 decided not to progress the Thames Gateway Bridge projec. Paragraph 6.20 of the London Plan July 2011 says the Mayor will include consideration of a fixed link across the River Thames at Gallions Reach. Table 6.1 indicates that the scheme would have an anticipated completion date post 2020.

Thames Gateway Bridge is a new crossing of the River Thames between Beckton and Thamesmead in East London. The role of the bridge is to improve access to regeneration sites in London Thames Gateway. Transport for London appointed Adams Hendry to undertake consultation and planning work as part of the Mott MacDonald Case Management Team. Adams Hendry undertook stakeholder consultation, managed consultation ‘roadshows’ and prepared the planning application for the bridge.

Newham and Greenwich councils resolved to approve the planning application in December 2004. The Secretary of State called in the planning application and there was a year long public inquiry that ended in May 2006.
