Stratford Station will be one of the main gateways for spectators to get to the sporting action and cultural excitement in the Olympic Park. During the Games, eight rail lines will service the station, making it a major public transport interchange. Around 60 per cent of all spectators traveling by rail to visit the Games will arrive and depart through this station.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is funding £104M worth of capacity and access enhancements at Stratford Station. The upgrade will allow around 60,000 spectators to pass through the station each morning during the Games and help the station cater for increased passenger demand in the future.

The upgrade will create legacy benefits by providing additional rail capacity to support regeneration in the Lea valley.

Transport for London progressed the enhancement scheme for the ODA initially and engaged Adams Hendry to prepare the planning application that was needed for those works that did not constitute permitted development.

The planning application was for an additional westbound Central Line platform and a new station entrance at mezzanine level that will provide a new access into the station from the Town Centre Link Bridge that is proposed by Westfield as part of the Stratford City Development. The ODA Planning Committee approved the planning application in November 2006 and Adams Hendry was engaged in discharging the planning conditions for the ODA during 2007 - 8. Construction work started in 2007 and the project is well underway with completion scheduled for 2010.
