Adams Hendry is providing Thames Water Utilities Ltd. (TWUL) with planning consultancy services associated with the delivery of the Riverside Digestion Project that includes the introduction of a new state of the art sludge digestion technology, Thermal Hydrolsis.

The pre-treatment of sludge by thermal hydrolosis reduces the number of off-site traffic movements needed to export the sludge to agricultural land and increases the generation of renewable energy.

Adams Hendry provided planning advice to Thames Water on various siting and technology options and the raft of planning policy requirements that apply to

schemes within London. The planning system in London is such that the digestion project was considered by three planning authorities: the London Borough of Havering; London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and the Greater London Authority.

Planning permission for this important project was granted on 30th October 2009 without the need for a public inquiry. Adams Hendry is now working with TWUL and its contractors on the discharge of planning conditions. Construction of the scheme started in Summer 2010.
