Coalition Government brings forward major changes to planning system .....

The Coalition Government has announced that major changes are to be made to the planning system as part of its proposals to decentralise decision making and give local communities more control over developments in their areas.  The Government has announced its intention to abolish the regional tier of planning (the Regional Spatial Strategies) and to change the decision making processes for nationally significant infrastructure projects, although precise details of how and when are still awaited.  It has also removed private gardens from the definition of brownfield land, in a bid to give them greater protection from development, and removed the requirement for new housing development to be at a minimum density of 30 dwellings per hectare.

This is a period of rapid and significant change for the planning system. New announcements are being made on almost a daily basis.  If you would like advice or information on how these changes affect you and any development proposals you have an interest in, please contact Andy Blaxland, Director, on 01962 877414 or a.blaxland@adamshendry.co.uk for an informal discussion.
