Brockenhurst College

In September 2007 Adams Hendry was appointed by Brockenhurst College to submit an outline planning application for a new campus on their existing site within the New Forest National Park. The development was needed in order to improve the quality and capacity of facilities to enable the College to meet the wider demands of the curriculum offered to students. The scheme comprised the demolition of the majority of the existing poor quality and unsuitable buildings and replacement with 22,500sqm of modern, fit for purpose accommodation.

Given the scale of development being proposed and by virtue of the site’s location within the New Forest National Park, a request for a screening opinion as to the need for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was submitted to the New Forest National Park Authority (NFNPA). Our role included the preparation of the screening request to the National Park Authority, input into the masterplan framework, liaison with statutory consultees, public consultation and the co-ordination of specialist consultants in the preparation of material to support the planning application. The NFNPA resolved to grant outline consent subject to the completion of a S106 agreement in May 2008.
